Location

Hang Mua is a tourist destination located in the core area of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, in Khe Dau Ha village, Ninh Xuan commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province; about 10km from Ninh Binh city, more than 90km from Hanoi city.

The name “Hang Mua” (Mua Caves) is associated with the legend of King Tran Thai Tong when the king often came here to watch the royal concubines dance and sing. Therefore, it was named Hang Mua (“Mua” means dancing).

Visiting route

Hang Mua has the typical geological features of a limestone mountain area that is millions of years old. Mua Mountain rises dramatically into the sky, its cliffs forming a majestic silhouette. Surrounded by undulating limestone mountains, it stands as a guardian of the ancient capital. Below, lush green rice fields meander along the gentle Ngo Dong River, creating a peaceful and picturesque landscape.

The road to the top of Mua Mountain is one of the most special features of Mua Cave. The road has nearly 500 winding stone steps, leading visitors through steep cliffs and cool green trees. On both sides of the road are elaborately carved dragon and phoenix reliefs, imbued with traditional Vietnamese culture. In Vietnamese folklore, these are spiritual animals, often carved in ancient architectural works to increase prosperity. Each step is a challenge, but also an opportunity for visitors to admire the majestic natural scenery and enjoy the fresh air.

On the top of Mua Mountain, the image of a dragon behind the statue of Buddha Quan Am is also an interesting highlight. This is also the highest dragon statue in Ninh Binh. In addition, visitors can also visit the skyscraper located at the highest position on the top of the moutain, built in the style of a Buddhist stupa. This tower is a super beautiful photo spot that makes many visitors have to line up to take photos here during peak season.

In the summer, from May to July, visitors to Hang Mua not only conquer the majestic Ngoa Long mountain peak but also have the opportunity to admire the poetic beauty of the vast lotus pond at the foot of the mountain. The immense lotus fields stretch out, the gentle fragrance spreads in the air, creating a peaceful and romantic scene.

View from the mountain

Standing on the top of Hang Mua Mountain, you will see the wonderful beauty of this area with your own eyes. From afar, visitors will admire the entire beauty of the Tam Coc area with vast rice fields, majestic limestone mountains, and boats sailing down the sparkling Ngo Dong River.

In June, the countryside in Tam Coc will become shimmering with the yellow color of ripe rice fields and the green color of natural mountains. After climbing more than 500 steps to reach the top of Ngoa Long Mountain, visitors can look far away and admire the entire scene of the ripe rice season. The golden ripe rice fields are like a giant carpet, stretching far to the horizon. The yellow color of Ninh Binh’s ripe rice season blends with the green color of the mountains and forests, creating a beautiful natural picture.
