International women day (8/3) & Vietnamese Women day (20/10)

  1. International women day: 8th March.

March 8 every year is known as the “International Women’s Day”. This is the day of the struggle for the rights of women and children around the world and to this day is also an opportunity to honor, show love and respect women.

History on 8-3 starts from the movement of female workers in the American textile industry at the end of the XIX period. On March 8, 1857, the textile workers stood up against their difficult and shabby working conditions in New York City. Two years later, also in March, the American female workers in the weaving company established the first union that was protected and gained some benefits.

About 50 years later, on March 8, 1908, 15,000 women marched on the streets of New York demanding a raise, reducing working hours and canceling children to work. After that, the United States Socialist Party announced that the International Women’s Day was February 28, 1909.

However, on March 8, 1910, at the 2nd International Women’s Conference (Socialist International), 100 women from 17 countries demanded the right to vote for women. The president of the Conference, Mrs. Clara Zetkin, German women, offered to choose an International Women’s Day to thank women who had struggled around the world.

The Conference decided to choose March 8 as International Women’s Day, Women’s Day of Solidarity with slogans: “8 -hour working day”, “Era work”, “Protect mothers and children”.

Since then, March 8 every year has become a common struggle for women around the world, praising the will of women around the world to fight for national independence, democracy, peace and social progress; For the happiness of women and children.

  1. Vietnamese Women day: 20th October.

In Vietnam, women are also honored on a separate day. Many people may know that October 20 is that holiday, but few people understand the origin of Vietnamese Women’s Day. This holiday is associated with many important historical milestones, namely: In 1972, many mass organizations were built and attracted many women to participate such as: Red Society, Red Farmers, Vocational Teams, Te Te groups.

In February 1930, the Organization of the Indochinese Communist Party was officially established. In the first platform of the Party, “Binh Quyen men and women”. Accordingly, the Party highly appreciated the role of women in the revolutionary force, so they set the task to liberate women, national liberation, and class liberation. After that, women had the right to participate in revolutionary organizations and set up their own organizations to attract women classes to participate in revolutionary activities.

On October 20, 1930, the Vietnam Women’s Union was officially established. In order to mark this important event, the Communist Party of Vietnam took October 20 every year as the traditional day of this organization, while celebrating and honoring Vietnamese women. From that milestone, October 20 is taken to the “Vietnamese Women Day” every year.

  1. Women’s Day in Vietnam. 

In Vietnam, to show the honor of women, half the world, agencies, unions, and families often celebrate the 8/3 anniversary very solemnly, filled with flowers and good wishes. March 8 is also the day men show the care of the woman they love.

Similarly, October 20, 1930 is considered the first day that Vietnam has an organization for women to encourage and encourage their activities for the revolutionary cause of the country, which still exists to this day.

Experiencing many historical stages, Vietnamese women have always shown the spirit of solidarity, an important role, actively contributing to the cause of national liberation, independence and national development. 

October 20 every year is extremely important, this is an opportunity for the country, society, husbands and children to acknowledge the contributions, the role of mothers, mothers, sisters and express their feelings to them. This event also continued to assert that the Vietnamese woman deserved with 8 golden words sent by Uncle Ho: “Hero, indomitable, loyal and courageous”.
