In Vietnam, cash is widely used and almost the only cash used by Vietnamese people as a means of exchange in addition to online forms. Cash in Vietnam includes polymers and cotton money, but the polymer currency is still the most utilized, and cotton is an old paper, rarely used.

The denominations for circulation in Vietnam include:

• 500,000 VND (blue)

• 200,000 VND (reddish brown)

• 100,000 VND (green)

• VND 50,000 (purple pink)

• 20,000 VND (blue)

• 10,000 VND (golden brown)

• 5,000 VND (blue)

• 2,000 VND (brown)

• VND 1,000 (green)

• VND 500 (yellow)

• 200 VND (reddish brown)

• VND 100 (pink)

2. The meaning of the front/ back, places.

On the bill of Vietnam, the front is the image of the great leader – Ho Chi Minh, who has merit in the revolution of national liberation, who has built the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Independence, Freedom and Happiness today. The image of the person is saved on the bill as a symbol of the currency of a country, similar to other countries.

For the back, each bill with different denominations will bring images of different places related to the country of Vietnam. Specifically:

  • 500,000 VND: Uncle Ho’s stilt house in President Ho Chi Minh relic area, Hanoi. 
  • 200,000 VND: Ha Long Bay, World Natural Heritage, Quang Ninh.
  • 100,000 VND: Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam, the first university of Vietnam, Hanoi.
  • 50,000 VND: Welcoming Luong Dinh and Ky Dai Hue, relics in the Hue Monuments Complex.
  • 20,000 VND: Bridge of Hoi An Pagoda, a symbol of Hoi An, Quang Nam.
  • 10,000 VND: Bach Ho oil field, East Sea. 
  • 5,000 VND: Tri An Hydroelectric Plant, Dong Nai.
  • 2,000 VND: Nam Dinh Textile Factory, the oldest textile facility.
  • 1,000 VND: Thac Ba Hydroelectric Plant, Yen Bai. 

3. The exchange rate of USD, Euro when converted to VND.

In the international market, Vietnam also needs to convert money with other foreign currencies, the most common of which are USD and Euro. The exchange rate will change over time, as well as market rules and world situation, however, the following will be the nearest exchange rate. 

In 2025, the USD/VND exchange rate fluctuated with the highest level of 25,641 VND on March 24, 2025 and the lowest level was 25,080 VND on January 24, 2025. Meanwhile, the EUR/VND exchange rate reached the highest level of 27,929 VND on March 18, 2025 and the lowest was 25,987 VND on January 31, 2025.
